SUMMARY:Proton Reactions: From Basic Science to Biomedical Applicat
 ions
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Proton transport is part of many biological processes such
 as pH regulati
on\, membrane potential changes\, proton-coupled transport across membran
es\, enzymatic reactions\, energy storage and release\, etc. Disruption o
f pH homeostasis has been observed in several pathological conditions (e.
g.\, cytoplasmic acidification in ischemia). Protonation dynamics are of
interest for substrate binding and consequently for drug design.  The mec
hanisms of proton transport have long been one of the most important rese
arch topics in biophysics. A number of different methods\, models\, and a
pproaches are used. For this reason\, we have invited many international
speakers with a wide range of expertise to present their latest exciting
discoveries related to the proton reactions. More than 24 slots will also
be reserved for young and contributed researchers to present their resul
ts in short talks selected from the abstracts.
