Citizens of the United States
Any U.S. passport holder can enjoy visa-exempt entry into France (Arrival at GVA airport) or Switzerland (Arrival at LYS airport) for up to 90 days for whatever purpose if:
- He or she has a passport with validity of at least six months after entry; and
- He or she has a confirmed return air ticket or an air ticket and a visa for the next destination, and a confirmed seat reservation for departure;
- He or she has no criminal record

Outside the United States
- Unless you're an EU national or from a nation without visa requirements, you need a Schengen Visa to enter France.
- Visa applications must be filed with the embassy or consulate of the Schengen country that is your primary destination.
- Visas are valid for stays of up to 90 days.
