Wow, the days went really fast, and were so intensive. Today, Thursday, I feel the contrast, and I am also very tired - in a good way. I have had so much fun the last few days. I am now full of scientific energy. I needed this. But now I should focus on ‘normal’ things again. Lot of emails and other business that have piled up. It needs my attention, but it is difficult to just shift gears. After a conference, I always feel sad and empty for a while. To fight this post-conference blues, I am staying a few more days in San Francisco. I will do some work (read, prepping for seminars to give in Sweden next week) in my hotel room that has a great view (I am on 28th floor) and, in between, I will walk around this beautiful city in the sunshine and drink Starbucks (Sweden only has a few Starbucks in the capital; none in my city Gothenburg).
I want to thank Biophysical Society for putting this meeting on. I know it was a difficult decision in uncertain times. But I am sure I speak for everyone attending when I say this: we are so happy you decided to run this meeting in person. It’s been full days of exciting science and interactions. I have learnt a lot of new things, got ideas for my own research, and met so many new and old friends. It cannot have been better. So, for you that did not attend; yes, you missed something. Go online and listen to as much as you can. And plan to come next year, 2023, when the BPS annual meeting will be in San Diego!
I always keep the badge from the meeting as a memory in my office. I love the different tags you can get depending on what you are involved in. I did not go to the BPS annual meeting when I was a student, nobody told me about it... I attended for the first time in 2010. But, since then, I have been attending every year always being engaged in something. I find the Biophysical Society to be the most wonderful society I have ever encountered. I am happy to now have it as my ‘home’. To you that attended for the first time, or will in the next year, I recommend that you make this meeting a tradition and that you get involved in committees and similar! You will have so much fun and get a huge extended family!
Ps. social media is getting more and more important, so please follow me and other biophysicists there: my username is @PernillaWittung on Twitter.
