Organizing a Student Chapter:
Are you a mentor to biophysics students who have leadership potential? Are YOU a biophysics student interested in growing your educational and career opportunities? If either answer is yes, you can help organize a Biophysical Society Student Chapter. Each chapter must be sponsored by a BPS member. Together, the chapter sponsor and the students serving as chapter officers may apply for BPS Student Chapter recognition during one of the two annual calls for applications. The following materials are required, and are included in the Student Chapter Application Packet Below:
- Signed Endorsement & Petition Forms and Completed Chapter Information Sheet
- Chapter Bylaws
- BPS Membership of all proposed Chapter Officers and Chapter Sponsor
- Responses to the Student Chapter Application Questionnaire
For complete instructions on forming an official BPS Student Chapter, please refer to the BPS Student Chapter Organization Manual and Student Chapter Application Packet linked below. Within these documents you will find guidelines on structuring a chapter, sample bylaws, duties of officers and committees, and the Endorsement and Petition forms required to apply to become a recognized chapter.
The application deadline is May 1, 2024. The BPS Education Committee will review and approve each new chapter. Multiple chapters wishing to start within close geographical proximity, or chapters with limited membership, may be advised, at the discretion of the Education Committee, to form a single regional chapter. Approved chapters will be reimbursed up to $200 USD in matching funds for expenses to assist with getting started.
