2020 has so far proven to be a roller coaster – particularly for students of science. Stay at home orders and uncertainties about returning to labs, continuing research and the general unknown as we attempt to battle back a pandemic that we could and should have been better prepared for. On Wednesday, July 29 at 3:00pm Eastern, BPS will host a webinar Q&A on the BPS Congressional Fellowship Program for the 2021-2022 fellowship year.
History tells us that we have been here before; science has shown us predictable, long-term investment in scientific research is necessary to prevent us from being so unprepared again. By bringing scientific expertise to actively participate in policy, we can help balance the public outcry for a simple, immediate solution. As part of that initiative, BPS created the Congressional Fellowship Program to place scientists in Congressional offices for a year-long fellowship.
Join us on Wednesday, July 29, current BPS Congressional Fellow Leah Cairns, office of Rep. Derek Kilmer (D-WA), will host a webinar for students, grad students and post-docs interested in science policy and considering the Congressional Fellowship program. Cairns will answer your questions on what the fellowship entails, what it’s like being a scientist working on national policy, what options are available to pursue a science policy career and any other questions you might have about the Fellowship.
Visit the website for more details about the program or contact Leann Fox at [email protected] or (240) 290-5606. Applications open on August 3, 2020.
