Jörg Enderlein, the Editor-in-Chief of the new BPS Open Access journal Biophysical Reports sat down to share his thoughts on this new venture.

The Biophysical Society's Annual Art of Science Image Contest took place online this year, during the 65th Annual Meeting. The third place winning image was submitted by Melanie König, a PhD student in the group of Siewert-Jan Marrink at the University of Groningen. König took some time to provide information about the image and the science it represents.

The Biophysical Society's Annual Art of Science Image Contest took place online this year, during the 65th Annual Meeting. The first place winning image was submitted by Rachel Fisher, a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Shana Elbaum-Garfinkle Lab at the City University of New York Advanced Science Research Center. Fisher took some time to provide information about the image and the science it represents.

For Biophysics Week, members of the Early Careers Committee have written short summaries of classical biophysics studies, accessible to scientists and non-scientists alike.

Over the past several decades, the intrinsically disordered protein (IDP) field has expanded dramatically. The depth of topics covered in the Biophysical Society IDP subgroup symposium over the last several years has highlighted the general acceptance of the crucial roles IDPs play in a wide range of biological functions.

Our cover image for Biophysical Journal’s March 2 issue conceptually shows how the grand challenge of protein dynamics can be addressed using computational tools and AFM-based experiments at the single-molecule level. We are aware of the strengths and limitations of both approaches, and we aim to establish a research agenda where we can combine these to elucidate biomolecular processes at the single-molecule level with higher resolution and wider time scales even when increased complexities are dominant.
