Sunday afternoon’s Educational Opportunities fair hosted representatives from dozens of universities and other programs.
Even though I’ve already been accepted to graduate school, the fair was still a great chance for me to find out about opportunities, including a neurophotonics summer school and a graduate student symposium at St. Jude’s children’s hospital.
The Frontiers in Neurophotonics summer school is an intensive ten-day summer program in Quebec City, Canada, that will run from June 2nd to 12th this year. It’s organized by the Neurophotonics Centre. Participants attend lectures on the theoretical basis of imaging techniques, with opportunities to practice the techniques and perform projects using them.
At the table for St. Judes’s Children’s hospital, I learned about an annual symposia for invited graduate students, as well as opportunities for post-doctoral fellowships.
Other students that I talked to enjoyed the fair as well. “It was great to learn about opportunities at the fair, especially Yale’s PEB integrated graduate program that allows you to rotate between biological, physical, and engineering labs,” says Mikael Toye, an undergraduate student from Clemson. Hailey Lovelace, another undergraduate, says she enjoyed learning about opportunities outside of the United States, especially the National University of Singapore and the University of Toronto.
If you’re an undergraduate student planning to apply to graduate school or a graduate student looking for a post-doc, consider spending some time at the Educational Fair during next year’s BPS conference!
