At the 2022 Annual Meeting, the Biophysical Society will celebrate the research achievements of students, postdocs, and early career researchers who are members of groups underrepresented in biophysics with the inaugural Justice for Underrepresented Scholars Training in Biophysics (JUST-B) Poster Session. The JUST-B Poster Session will promote the research of trainees, offer support through networking opportunities, and serve as a recruitment venue for those seeking to diversify their pool of future graduate students, postdocs, faculty, staff scientists, journal editors, or any other career within biophysics. The goal is to address and mitigate inequities in the biophysics community by providing a space for underrepresented trainees to share their scientific accomplishments and take steps toward advancing their careers.
Those presenting their posters during the JUST-B session must be authors on posters that will be presented in a scientific session during the meeting, with an abstract submitted by the late abstract deadline of January 6, 2022. Participants will also need to fill out a short separate application and confirm their status as a member of a group recognized as underrepresented in the biomedical sciences. Eligible students, trainees, and early career scientists include those who are Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, LGBTQ+, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds (as defined in the Notice of NIH’s Interest in Diversity).
The JUST-B poster session will take place at the Annual Meeting each year on Monday from 3:00 PM–5:00 PM. Event sponsors include Transnetyx, Cell Press, the Society of General Physiologists, the Journal of General Physiology, and Texas A&M University.
