Dear Colleagues,
It is with pleasure that we invite you to participate in the Biophysical Society Thematic Meeting on Physical and Quantitative Approaches to Overcome Antibiotic Resistance. This meeting will be held at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, August 14-18, 2022.
This meeting was originally scheduled for August 2020 but has been postponed two years due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. We look forward to welcoming you in Stockholm as we discuss approaches to defend against yet another infectious threat to global health.
Antibiotic resistance is a pressing global challenge to human health, and biophysics and bioengineering have much to offer to the global response to this challenge. This meeting will help bring together scientists working to diagnose, understand, and overcome antibiotic resistance. Engineering approaches and the biophysical methodologies of spectroscopy, single-molecule and single-cell microscopy, computational modeling, and development of functional assays are uniquely suited to help answer these questions. This meeting seeks to explore the interface between biophysical research and the microbiology of drug resistance, highlighting the breadth of work that spans these two fields and encouraging new synergies to tackle this global health problem.
We have invited an exciting list of international speakers, and we also solicit contributed presentations in planned sessions on imaging approaches to antibiotic resistance, measuring and modeling community interactions in antibiotic resistance, biophysics of drug uptake and efflux by bacteria, novel drug targets, engineering approaches to drug resistance, and other topic areas that we may not have anticipated.
Visit the website for the program overview and list of speakers. Please share this information with colleagues who may be interested in attending.
Please note that the deadline to submit an late abstract is June 28, 2022. Abstract submission is free and short talks will be selected from among submitted abstracts.
We look forward to your contributions and your enthusiastic participation in this stimulating meeting!
