Today’s authors have many journals to choose from when submitting their work for publication and they have many factors to evaluate when choosing where to submit their manuscripts: factors such as reputation, cost, readership, open access, page limits, and more. For many authors, publication immediacy is an important criterion guiding their choice of which journal they submit to.
At the Biophysical Journal we understand that time to publication is critical to our authors, and so the Journal is now publishing accepted articles ahead of proof. This will significantly reduce the time from acceptance to publication. From the time the Editorial Office receives the authors final files, the accepted manuscript will be published online within 2 to 3 days. A doi will also be issued at that time, which will make the article fully citable.
To see the latest papers, navigate to the journal homepage at https://www.cell.com/biophysj/home and click on the Online Now button in the navigation bar.
The journal will continue to send out author queries and prepare edited, styled proofs to ensure articles are presented clearly and professionally. In addition to publishing accepted manuscripts in a matter of days, the journal is moving to a new author proofing system where author queries can be input and addressed at the same time as the proofing stage, as opposed to separately via email (this latter step could add up for 48 hours to the schedule), and this will speed up acceptance to publication of the final version of the article. Corrected proofs — when ready — will replace the accepted manuscript online.
Fast turnaround time is just another reason to support your Society journal and send your best work to Biophysical Journal!
